Vanity of vanities

Meaningless meaningless, everything is meaningless

As a believer in Jesus’s divine birth, perfect life, unjust death, and His glorious resurrection to the right hand of God. I have never been too bothered about matters that were too lofty for me to fathom like, Premillennialism, Amillenialism, Preterism, Pantelism and any other ism or schism one can imagine. It seemed to me that God would show me what was right in His own time, and I need not worry myself about such things. As the good book says in 1 Timothy 1:4 “nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith”. Or again in Titus 3:9 “But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and striving about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless”. Indeed, I have had many encounters with persons who would so rail against me that I must take this or that position, or else I was ignorant. No I was, and am not ignorant, I just did not feel any urgency to take up any particular point of view that was not imperative to my walk with the Lord.

The Rapture doctrine

One such topic of debate that I also did not come down on either side of the fence on was, “The Rapture” This too was a subject that I felt would be made clear to me, when the time was right. It seemed silly to me that people would get all worked up about a word that was not even in the bible!

Jennifer Rothnie on writes

No, the word rapture is not in the Bible (in English, Latin, or Greek). In English translations, what some people refer to as the rapture is one specific use of the term "caught up/Caught away" in I Thess 4:17.

The English word 'rapture' derives from the first person plural passive of the Latin "rapio/rapere" (drag off, snatch, seize, carry off) which is "Rapiemur" in the Latin Vulgate translation. [The English word 'rape' also derives from rapio/rapere, so you can see how even rapiemur is not equivalent to 'rapture'].

This Latin word, which was used in the Latin Vulgate translation in I Thess 4:17, is itself translated from the Greek "arpagēsometha", the second future passive indicative of "harpazo", which means to catch/seize/carry away/snatch/obtain by robbery. A good way to picture this word is to imagine a king forceably taking his spoils of war.

As such, "rapture" is an English word with a couple of degrees of separation from the original Greek, and it is not used in the Bible itself.

Greek 'harpazo', Latin 'rapere', English 'to seize by force/snatch up': This "seizing" does not imply a specific set of locations, nor does the word define who is doing the seizing, why, or to whom. The context and surrounding words/details must be relied on for that, so it varies by verse.
IE, 2 Cor 12:12, Matt 12:29, Acts 8:39, Rev 12:5, John 10:28, Acts 23:10

Harpazo does, however, refer to an open and overt display of force, and focuses on the sudden, forceful, and decisive action of the one doing the seizing.

The English word "rapture" generally refers not to the translation of harpazo, but rather to specific theories regarding that set of locations, people, or purpose referred to in I Thess 4:17. One modern, popular theory is that Christ in I Thess 4:17 is secretly returning for his church to take them away before the tribulation begins.

However, these are just theories/interpretations of men - and their merit must be determined from other scriptures.

The use of the word harpazo itself only shows that the events occurring in I Thess 4:16-17 (Christ coming on the clouds, us meeting Him) will be sudden, public, and via force and might (in this instance, by the might of Christ).

Note the sentence where it says, sudden, PUBLIC, and via force. How can there be a secret Harpazo when it will be a public affair, like it says in Revelation 1:7 (the same coming in the clouds)

Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

Final day

At the beginning of 20202 I acquired Rick Wiles’s new book, titled Final day. From

Rick Wiles is not everybody”s cup of tea, he is outspoken on many subjects, including statements that have earned him the unfair title of being anti-Semitic. His stance on the Israeli treatment of Palestinians, for example the shooting of unarmed Palestinian teenagers, the forceful and unlawful confiscation and occupation of Palestinian land, and many other atrocities has unduly enraged and angered his many critics. The funny thing is that all Rick Wiles does is read Israeli newspapers and repeats what their own headlines and stories say. Read more from the New York Times here Israelis May Have Committed Crimes Against Humanity in Gaza Protests, U.N. Says

So, to get the point across I will repeat. Rick Wiles reads Israeli news rags like Haaretz, and The Jerusalem Post, quotes the headlines and stories in their own words and is then vilified by left wing liberal lunatics as anti-Semitic!

Rapture Deception roots

John Nelson Darby in the early 1800s was the sower that Satan used to promote this heretical pre tribulation rapture doctrine. Darby was a master at assembling assorted heresies and false doctrine into a coherent and systematic theology that was then easily foisted onto an ignorant and gullible populace. With the help of others, notably, Dwight L Moody and Cyrus Scofield, Darby’s heresies and false doctrine were made commonplace. Moody built a bible college to teach Darbyism and Schofield went even further, he inserted it into the Holy bible.

Starting with Darby, we can see that he was born in Westminster, London. The 6th son of John Darby and Anne Vaughan. The Darby’s were rich land owning gentry who’s family seat was an ancient blood filled (also it took three cart loads of bones to clear out a torture dungeon behind the chapel wall) Haunted Leap Castle No one can say for sure what went on in Darby’s childhood, but I think we can safely assume that it was probably not a Godly upbringing.

Darby, Originally a curate in County Wicklow, Ireland, became an influential leader in the Plymouth brethren that was established in Plymouth, England in December 1831. In 1845 Darby returned from a church planting trip to Switzerland to find that Benjamin Newton had a firm grip on the Plymouth Bretheren Church. Darby attacked Newton on several fronts trying to wrest control of the Plymouth Brethren church, but his efforts failed and as is so many times the case with usurpers he instigated a church split. The Exclusive Brethren was the result of Darby’s leadership bid which experienced many subsequent splits, scatterings, and recombination. The Open Brethren also suffered one split (concerning the autonomy of assemblies) which occurred at different times in different parts of the world. Nevertheless, both the Exclusive and the Open Brethren continued to expand their congregations, with the opens expanding more rapidly than the exclusives. Charles Spurgeon was an ardent and outspoken critic of Derby’s Jewish-centric Millennial kingdom eschatology.

Then came the con artist Cyrus Scofield, sometimes known as Cyrus Ingerson, or Charles Ingerson, Scofield was a fraudster and a cheat and also spent six months in prison for forgery until his sister Emmaline paid off the debt that got him locked up. Scofield was appointed U. S. District Attorney for Kansas—at 29, the youngest in the country. Nevertheless, that same year Scofield was forced to resign “under a cloud of scandal” because of questionable financial transactions, which may have included accepting bribes from railroads, stealing political contributions intended for Ingalls, and securing bank promissory notes by forging signatures. Scofield was jailed on forgery charges. Perhaps in part because of his self-confessed heavy drinking, Scofield abandoned his wife and two daughters during this period. Leontine Cerrè Scofield divorced him on grounds of desertion in 1883, and the same year Scofield married Hettie Hall von Wartz, with whom he eventually had a son. During the early 1890s, Scofield began styling himself Rev. C. I. Scofield, D.D.; but there are no extant records of any academic institution having granted him the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree. Scofield’s second wife proved a faithful companion and editing assistant, but his relationships with his children were distant at best. His editing assistant was working with him on his Scofield Reference Bible, which was nothing more than a King James Bible in which Scofield had scribbled notes that he thought worthy of publication. Although the Scofield Reference Bible contains the text of the King James Authorized Version, it is not the traditional Protestant bible, but rather Cyrus I. Scofield’s annotated commentary that is problematic. More than any other factor, it is Scofield’s notes that have induced generations of American evangelicals to believe that God demands their uncritical support for the modern State of Israel. Excerpt from

Two years after Scofield’s reported conversion to Christianity in 1879, theAtchison Patriot was less than impressed. Describing the former Atchison resident as the “late lawyer, politician and shyster generally,” the article went on to recount a few of Scofield’s “many malicious acts.” These included a series of forgeries in St. Louis, for which he was sentenced to six months in jail.

Being a “born again” preacher did not preclude Scofield from becoming a member of an exclusive New York men’s club in 1901, either. In his devastating biography, The Incredible Scofield and His Book, Joseph M. Canfield suggests, “The admission of Scofield to the Lotus Club, which could not have been sought by Scofield, strengthens the suspicion that has cropped up before, that someone was directing the career of C.I. Scofield.”

That someone, Canfield suspects, was associated with one of the club’s committee members, the Wall Street lawyer Samuel Untermeyer. As Canfield intimates, Scofield’s theology was “most helpful in getting Fundamentalist Christians to back the international interest in one of Untermeyer’s pet projects—the Zionist Movement.”

Others have been even more explicit about the nature of Scofield’s service to the Zionist agenda. In “Unjust War Theory: Christian Zionism and the Road to Jerusalem,” Prof. David W. Lutz writes, “Untermeyer used Scofield, a Kansas City lawyer with no formal training in theology, to inject Zionist ideas into American Protestantism. Untermeyer and other wealthy and influential Zionists whom he introduced to Scofield promoted and funded the latter’s career, including travel in Europe.”

I think we can safely say that Scofield was indeed a con man. Although all have fallen short of the Glory of God, not all have been used for the devil’s purposes. Nor been assisted in ways that may not have been possible, except for Satan’s plans and benediction.

What I have learnt from Rick Wile’s book over the past few weeks has really helped me to put into perspective all those things that I did not understand, nor indeed cared to interpret before. I always knew that God would show me what I needed to know before I needed to know it. I am sure that there are still many things of which I am ignorant, but I am equally sure that God will reveal to me what I need to know, and at the time that I need to know it. Until then, I remain in His peace.

Read it!

I wholeheartedly and unreservedly encourage you to read this book for yourself. It may or may not enlighten you. It may or may not encourage you, but if you never read it, you’ll never know.

I will endeavor over the next few posts to expound more of what I have discovered in this book.

If there is a secret pre tribulation rapture. Who are the people in verse 7. Surely, according to the Pre tribbers they won’t be here? So, Satan’s gonna attack them in heaven? Good luck with that devil.
Revelation 13
5 The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months. 6 It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. 7 It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8 All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.

9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.

10 “If anyone is to go into captivity,
into captivity they will go.
If anyone is to be killed[c] with the sword,
with the sword they will be killed.”[d]

This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.

Till next time

God bless
