Questions that deserve an answer #2

What is impossible for man is possible with God

Matthew 17:24-27

Peter and Jesus are out and about strolling around Galilee one day, when something happened that would simply blow your mind if you had witnessed it.

Jesus told his followers that “they” not His followers naturally, would kill Him, and on the third day He would rise, and His followers were exceedingly sad, obviously, all they heard was that Jesus was going to be killed, but they did not understand the being raised in three days part, probably because it was not a common thing (still isn’t) for people to be raised from the dead, unless God had something to do with it, so naturally, all that the disciples heard was Jesus was gong to be killed.

Jesus decides to go to Capernaum.

24 On their arrival in Capernaum, the Temple tax collectors came to Peter
and asked him, “Doesn’t your master pay taxes?”

25 “Of course he does,” Peter replied.

Then he went into the house to talk to Jesus about it, but…….

Before he had a chance to speak,

26- Jesus asked him, “What do you think, Peter? Do kings levy assessments against their own people or against conquered foreigners?”

Now, let us pause just a minute here, Peter must have been thinking WHAT! how did you know I was coming to talk to you about that? what are you some kinda mind reader? But he answers Jesus’s question anyway.

27 “Against the foreigners,” Peter replied.

“Well, then,” Jesus said, “the citizens are free! However, we don’t want to offend them, so go down to the shore and throw in a line, and open the mouth of the first fish you catch. You will find a coin to cover the taxes for both of us; take it and pay them.”

would of ever thought of such a thing?

How did Jesus do this?

Did He secretly go down to the sea and place coins in many fishes mouths so that by some chance peter might catch one of those? What would be the odds? Was Peter perhaps hypnotized into thinking he had caught a fish with a coin in it’s mouth? How and why did Jesus say “take the first fish you catch”?

Looking at the stars at night one is awed by the sheer number of them, there are so many stars in the universe The sea of Galilee is just over sixty-four square miles and has a length of just over 13 miles on one side the average depth is about 84 foot (varying) and it’s deepest parts are about 141 foot (varying) the estimated volume of water is 4 km3 (0.96 cu mi) whatever that means 🙂

Just for argument’s sake, say we had only 1 fish in every mile (the actual figure would be much higher of course) then 64X64 = 4096 fish so suppose you want to put a coin in each fishes mouth that would be 16,384 drachma, That would be quite a weight for Jesus to haul down to the sea and then start shoving the coins into the fishes mouths not to mention the time it would take.

OK, so what is the alternative? Apart from hypnotizing Peter into
believing he had caught a fish with coinage in it’s mouth what
other explanation can there be???

Could Jesus actually be in control of all the fish in the seas? Could He
know things that would be unknowable? Could He do things that most
people can’t even imagine? Could He turn water into wine? Could He heal people of various diseases and maladies? Could He make Blind people see and deaf people hear? Could He as a 10-year-old boy debate with and astonish learned scholars of His time? Could He predict the future, not only His own but the worlds? Could He raise people from the dead? How did He do that? Could He predict with incredible accuracy what people would say in the future? Which leads me to my next topic. But I think we have enough to chew on for now, so, till next time ill leave you with this classic 6 hour long epic movie, Jesus of Nazareth. I highly recommend Clicking the picture below and start watching it now, you don’t have to watch it all in one go 🙂

So, till next time, God bless.

  1. I think that if we were able to believe hundred percent that we can fly, we would be able to fly. As an example. Of course, you can change “fly” for “walk on water” or anything else. The thing is we live in a world and are brought up getting certain beliefs implemented by parents and society so we are not able to believe that strong.
I know a girl who told me that when she was a child she believed she could turn the pages in a book with her mind, without using her hand to do it. Her father had some special abilities, like a wizzard and he made her believe everything was possible. However, when he died and she stopped having support in him she lost her mind power and although she knows about these things, she can’t get her powers back. It’s strange, isn’t it?
So I really think everything is possible. There are things that can’t be explained with logics and are far beyond our understanding.

    1. Hmm, Interesting thought Lenka, but i don’t seriously think that we were made to fly. This girl that said she could turn book pages by mind power, did you ever see it happen? I could tell you that i can turn into a giraffe, but if i cannot prove it, it is just words! Jesus was and is able to prove his power to any who believe because He is God and has the power to do so, we on the other hand are limited at best, and flawed at worst, we can make proud boasts, but can do nothing to prove our silly boasts about page turning or any other “magic”

  2. It was such a blessing to stumble across your blog post about Jesus and Peter.  That whole story teaches us that there are no accidents and all things are divinely orchestrated. Having said all that I am planning on watching Jesus of Nazareth with my family over the Holiday season.  Thank you again for sharing the miracles of Jesus.

    1. Thanks Pamela, I too plan to watch the movie over 3 days this Christmas, i have seen a few different Jesus movies in my time. but i think this the best, something about Robert Powell’s eyes 🙂

  3. Very good lesson. Only God could know exactly what fish Peter would catch and see to it that that particular fish would have that particular coin in its mouth. Jesus, being God The Son, would know. One can only imagine Peter’s thoughts at the time. It wouldn’t be the first miracle he’d seen, but it would still be awe-inspiring. It’s one of those times when you don’t read about Peter refuting Jesus. He just went and got the coin from the fish.

    1. I agree Neko, If you exist outside of time you can do as you wish, orchestrate things just as you want them. In my minds eye it’s just another proof of Jesus being God.

  4. How did Jesus do this? He did it because He is the God-man – God incarnate or God in the flesh.

The most amazing thing is found in Philippians chapter 2:6-8: “who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

He did all this so that our relationship with God could be restored. This is the Good News, and the true meaning of Christmas!

  5. Hi and thanks for your insight into an important Bible story.

Jesus, being the Son of God performed a number of miracles throughout his life; indeed the coins in the mouth of the fish was just a small example.

It would have been very difficult for the disciples to have faith that Jesus would rise fro mthe dead. Imagine if we were told this by a friend in this day and age. Most of us would question the sanity of that friend.

  6. Jesus’ sole mission on earth is to fulfill John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” You and I stand righteous not because of our works but because of what He did for us at Calvary.
If we believe in the incarnation of our Lord, Jesus Christ, then we should have no problem believing in the gold-coin-in-fish-mouth miracle.
Our modern-day sophistication has made us begin to rationalize miracles. I can see an attempt to work out the probability of Jesus putting the coins in the mouth of the fish! That did not end well. Did it?
Here’s my take. As a born-again Christian, I believe that miracles are, ” supernatural events that are not explicable by natural or scientific laws.” This particular miracle is one of the least of Jesus’ catalogue of miracles as recorded in the Bible.
Thanks for the Jesus’ movie. I will take a peek at it during the Christmas break.

    1. Undoubtedly, the fish in the mouth miracle is one of Jesus’s lesser feats, because salvation itself is the greatest miracle. But my point in trying to do some math on the subject was only to let the reader grasp the enormity on the miracle, As for your statement “that did not end well, did it?” I choose to disagree, i think it went very well especially for those who read it, and have not stopped to ponder it’s meaning. The meaning is that Jesus Christ is God, and He can do anything He chooses, and we in our sin and arrogance piss Him off all the time, yet still He loves us.
      Thank you Jesus.

  7. It is of great importance for Christians to have that believe that our God is a God of possibilities, what seems to be impossible for me, is possible for God. Everything is possible if you have the mindset that you can and most importantly, through Christ who strengthens us. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Wow!
